ONE
OF THE TWO ALBUMS THAT JUSTIFY SLAVING OVER AN INDEPENDENT MUSIC REVIEW
MAGAZINE:
This CD also goes in the ART section, because it is.
From the Lonesome Sky falls a hypnotic voice landing somewhere between
‘Debbie Harry’ and ‘Mazzy Star without the put-on’.
Vocalist/guitarist Danielle Kimak Stauss is the valkyrie for all you who
(like me) can’t stand female singers but need a break from the macho-core
madness now and then… something to brood and breathe to.
Infectious melodies swoop and flutter, guitar twangs
drop and glitter or blast and echo off into nowhere like Clint Eastwood
gunfire. The “spaghetti western” sound is well-worn but in
this case extremely well executed. The moodiest twang since Chris Issac’s
“Wicked Game”.
The 6th album from this New York/Jersey "sonic surf"
ambient lounge band, Lonesome Sky is an iridescent production, with an
ever-haunting undertow of sub-woof synth-cello pulling the reverb-soaked
guitars out to dark, deep sea. Smashing soundtrack for an arty movie or
all-night make-out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-Beky Hayes
