MUSIC CHERRY

Well, my never-ending search of the vast reaches of the internet for a good Mazzy Star surrogate has led to another contender. I am slowly and reluctantly accepting the fact that there is no more Mazzy Star, and it seems increasingly unlikely that Hope Sandoval has any more solo music in the works, either. Anyway, I found The Lost Patrol languishing in relative obscurity on the Hoboken Rock City podcast, which you can get through iTunes. There's some more info about the show here.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't gotten past "Hello," the one song included in the Hoboken Rock City show, to determine if The Lost Patrol is truly up to par, but that's because this one song is so good. Maybe I just need to revisit my Mazzy Star albums for an intense listening session, but I've been so starved for this sound for so long that I've been looping "Hello" for a good while now. It's definitely got that psychedelic-Western, stoned-out Mazzy Star/Cowboy Junkies thing going on. Another review described The Lost Patrol's sound as "shimmering," which is a perfect fit for "Hello." Exquisite!

For those who want to dig a little deeper, "Hello" comes from The Lost Patrol's 2004 release, High Noon, which you can buy at CD Baby. You can find also find out more about the band on their website. I'll be right behind you.
And if you need a fix right away, download Hello.
