Lost Patrol
- Launch and Landing (This is an obscure band from NY fronted by a woman
with a beautiful, Mazzy Star-like voice. They're the sweetest, blurriest
band to involve surf guitar.)
Art in Manila
- Set the Woods on Fire (I picked up the album at my inaugural visit to
an Amoeba record store while I was in Los Angeles. I listened to it over
and over again on my drive down to San Diego which was the best middle-of-the-night
soundtrack I could've hoped for. I was also surprised to hear a cover
of my favorite song from Les Savy Fav who also had a great new release
this year.)
Les Savy Fav
- Let's Stay Friends (I sorta kinda have a crush) Gogol Bordello - Super
Tantra (Viva waltzing parlor punk!)
Laura Veirs
- Saltbreakers (The irony of a song called "Don't Loose Yourself"
is that you do just that.)
Kristen Hersh
- Learn to Sing Like a Star (Kristen is one of my heroes. Her voice, weathered
by the harsh terrain of the music industry, always has something profound
to say.)
Maps - We
Can Create (This is the kind of music that can instantly make you feel
like you've been swept into an epic fairytale.)
Blonde Redhead
- 23 (Some of the most enchanting to work to come from 4 AD since its
reigning days of the counter-culture.)
